The Creative Lexington Story
Good things are happening in Lexington. Our growing city is filled with creative spirits telling stories— stories about what it’s like to be a Kentuckian, stories that share a human experience, stories that make our community a better place to live.
Sharing these stories is the mission of Creative Lexington.
Snapshot Bios are short videos spotlighting community creatives making their mark. Our first round of stories featured icons of Lexington’s artistic scene: Frank X. Walker, Dr. Everett McCorvey, Kelsey Van Tine, Julie Glover, Anne Kindl, and Louis Zoellar Bickett II. These are just the first of many to come.
We got the film bug doing our Snapshots, so we decided it would be fun to use the creative talent we have and shoot a full feature film right here in Lexington. I know, it sounds crazy, but the best way to get me to accomplish something is to tell me I can't do it. First things first though, we needed a screenplay. So we had our first screenplay competition in 2016 with over 400 entries from Kentucky and beyond. The winner was a recent film student graduate from the University of Kentucky. We are shooting the film in July 2017 and have several other screenplays in the works. So we are not all hot air, we actually execute our game plan. We want to be a part of building a vibrant film industry in our backyard. We hope you get as excited as we are.
Telling stories. Spreading awareness. Building community.
Welcome to Creative Lexington.
